Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Edward Hall Jr is a part of US Black heritage.

Lonnie Edward Hall Jr was born on 11 October 1920 in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents were Lonnie Hall Sr and Edna (Robinson) Hall Valentine. Lonnie was their third and youngest child. His older siblings were twins. In 1950, Lonnie was enumerated by his middle name, Edward, and may have used it more often than his first name.

Sometime soon after Lonnie's birth his father either died or his parents divorced. In December of 1923, his mother, Edna, remarried. Lonnie was first enumerated in the household of his uncle Jacob, his mother's oldest brother, along with his mother, Edna; older siblings, Josephine and Joseph; step-father, Samuel Valentine; grandmother, Maggie Robinson; and uncle, Ralph Robinson. Most of them were listed as "roomers" in his uncle's home.

In the 1930 census, Lonnie (age 9), was the roomer of Jacob Robinson in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States.[1]

In the 1940 census Lonnie (age 19) was the single stepson (step son) of Sam Valentine in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan.[2]

Lonnie's World War II draft card describes him as being 6 feet 1 and a half inches tall, weighing 203 pounds, with brown hair and eyes and a dark brown complexion. At the time of his registration, he was working at the Chrysler Tank Arsenal. His mother, Edna, was recorded as his contact.[3]

According to his gravestone, Lonnie served during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. [still researching]

On 27 September 1948, in Lucas County, Ohio, Lonnie married Willie Clara Davis, a practical nurse who was the daughter of Evans Davis and Clara (Shepler) Davis. Lonnie was working as a crane operator at the time of his marriage.

In the 1950 census, Edward (age 30), Crane Operator, was enumerated as the married son of Edna Valentine in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States. He was working as a crane operator and his wife, Willie, was working as a nurse.[4]

Lonnie Edward Hall Jr. died on 4 December 2017 and was laid to rest in the Detroit Memorial Park East in Warren, Macomb County, Michigan.[5] His Find-a-Grave memorial has a photo of his gravestone.
