Charles was born in 1882. He was the son of Benjamin Hall and Jane Eade. In 1913 he seems to have been living at Llanover, Barkly West, Cape Province, South Africa as he signed as a witness to his nephew Cecil Hall and uncle Thomas Eade's death and was still a farmer there at the time of his first marriage in 1918. Later in life he lived at Llanover Farm, Odzi, Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.
Charlie was an exceptionally tall man, being about 6'8" tall with size 13 feet.
