Joseph Hadley, born 1724 Gloucester, MA, son of John & Hannah (Lowe) Hadley[1][2]
He was a ship's Captain who was involved in the seige of Louisbourg in 1745[3], and was among the earliest English settlers of Nova Scotia.
In 1762, he was listed as one of the founders of Liverpool township, Nova Scotia [4][5]. Before 1766, he moved to Chedabucto Bay, in what is now Guysborough, Nova Scotia "...it had been reserved [before 1765] for Joseph Hadley, said to have been a captain of transports at the first taking of Louisbourg in 1745. Hadley had been resident on his land for some years in 1785 ..." [3][5]. On Friday September 4, 1766, Simeon Perkins Diary referred to him as Capt. Joseph Headley from Chedabucto Bay[6]
His first wife was Ruth, surname unknown[3][5], and their children included:
Ruth[5], m. John Godfrey November 29, 1764[7]. He died on a voyage from Barcelona[3]. She died in Manchester, Guysborough County[7]
John [5], who married Elizabeth Young, and was lost at sea in 1767. Elizabeth subsequently married Simeon Perkins[8]
William[5], who was married to Jane Gordon March 29, 1775[9]

The above named John Headley wast lost at sea bound from Halifax to Milford Haven in 1767. and page 58, which states Simeon Perkins (son of Jacob Perkins, Esq. of Norwich) was married to Elizabeth Headley (relict of John Headley and daughter of Henry Young)
