Charles Haag was born November 13th, 1858 in Lancaster City, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, son of Jacob M. & Lydia Haag. "He was a cigarmaker by occupation, and was an expert workman on the finer line of goods. When the Dilworth factory go well under way on this class of goods in the boro Mr. Haag came here in 1886 and took a position with them. He has been a resident of the town ever since. An excerpt from the death notice of of his mother Lydia Haag "Among the children are Charles, a well known cigar maker, of New Holland." An excerpt from the 1892 obituary of his father Jacob, "Two of his sons, Charles and Sherman have been working in Dillworth's cigar manufactury in this place for a number of years."

The 1899 Lancaster Directory lists Charles as residing at 307 S. Prince St in the city of Lancaster. The 1900 federal census show him married and residing on main Street in New Holland Borough in Earl Township. His wife was Ida Schlauch.

Charles and Ida were the parents of one child, an infant who was born and died October 22, 1896. This child is buried in Saint Stephen United Church of Christ Cemetery, New Holland; Headstone: Infant son of Charles & Ida Haag, Born & died Oct. 22, 1986; FAG #72164572

Charles died April 2nd , 1907 in the Lancaster General Hospital. His remains are buried in Saint Stephen United Church of Christ Cemetery in New Holland; FAG Memorial 72164429; Headstone Inscription: At Rest Charles Haag Born Nov 13, 1858 Died April 2, 1907 Aged 45 yrs 4 mo 20 days

Ida died June 11, 1938 in Lancaster General Hospital and is also buried in Saint Stephen UCC Cemetery in New Holland, FAG 721643. Headstone Inscription: Ida May Schlauch, Wife of J. Elmer Steele, and widow of Charles Haag, Born Mar. 5. 1867, Died June 11, 1938, Aged 71 yrs, 3 mos & 6 days.

OBITUARY: When the news of the death of Charles Haag reached here on Tuesday afternoon it came to a large circle of relatives and friends as a shock barbed with pain and sorrow. When this paper last reached our readers Mr. Haag was an inmate of the General Hospital in Lancaster but his condition was not thought to be so critical, however he was obliged to succumb to the inevitable on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and all that was mortal of our friend and townsman now rests in the silent city of the dead. Charles Haag was born in Lancaster, November 18, 1858 and consequently his age was 48 years 4 months and 19 days. He was a cigarmaker by occupation, and was an expert workman on the finer line of goods. When the Dilworth factory got well under way on this class of goods in this boro Mr. Haag came here in 1886 and took a position with them. He has been a resident of the town ever since. His health has been failing for some years and about a year ago he was compelled to give up his occupation and has been unable to do much since. On March 11 he went to the hospital for treatment for stomach troubles. He was a member of St. Stephen Reformed Church; and of Washington Camp, No. 40, P.O.S. of A., also New Holland Hook & Ladder Co. His wife, who was Ida Schlauch, daughter of the late David S., and Amelia Schlauch, survives, as do the following brothers and sisters: John Barnard Haag, Mrs. Sarah Benson, Mrs. Cecelia Chambers, Mrs. Lydia Whitlinger, Jacob, Harry, and Sherman Haag, all of Lancaster, and Mrs. Benjamin Weaver, of West Collingwood, N. J. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Amelia Schlauch, on West Main street, this boro. Services were conducted at the house. Interment was made in St. Stephen Reformed Cemetery. Rev. John G. Noss officiated. N. C. Henninger was the undertaker. A number of the members of Camp 40 and the Hook & Ladder Co. were in attendance at the funeral and the burial service of the order was used. There were a number of floral tributes.
