Biography

Gloria was born in British Columbia, Canada in 1924. ^{[1] [2]} Her parents were Alfred Grisenthwaite and Isabel Bessie (May) Grisenthwaite, who were living at 1428 Parker Street, Vancouver, British Columbia at the time of the 1921 Census. Alfred was a Shoemaker. ^{[3] [4]}

In 1931, Gloria's family resided in a 4-room semi-detached house at 39 Warwick Avenue, Burnaby, British Columbia. Her father worked as a Deck Hand in the dredging industry. ^[1]

By 1945, the family had moved to 4504 Napier Street, Vancouver. ^[5]

Gloria was married to George R. Banner, a Construction Worker, from 1948 to 1957. ^[6] In 1953, the couple resided at 942 - 22nd Avenue East, Vancouver. ^[7]

After the marriage ended, Gloria had accommodation at the home of Myrle and Ethel Hawley at 284 Hythe Avenue North, Burnaby, British Columbia. She continued to use the surname "Banner". ^[8]

She and her mother Isabel lived at 163 Glynde Avenue South, Burnaby in 1963. ^[9]

By 1965, Gloria had married Jack Martin and moved to 206 - 5190 Hastings Street East, Burnaby. Isabel lived with the couple. ^[10]

Gloria, Jack, and Isabel resided at 36 Springer Avenue South, Burnaby in 1968 ^[11] and at 4861 Sardis Street, Burnaby in 1972. ^[12]

Jack died 26 June 1997 in Burnaby at the age of 76. He and Gloria were living at 149 - 145 King Edward Street, Coquitlam, British Columbia at the time. ^[13]

Gloria's address remained 149 - 145 King Edward Street, Coquitlam when her mother died on 30 September 1999. ^[3]

At the age of 97, Gloria died 5 September 2022 in Coquitlam. ^[2]

Research Notes

No records have been found that would reveal the precise dates/places of Gloria's birth or marriages. It can be inferred from Gloria's obituary that her birth date was no earlier than 6 September 1924.

Also unknown is birth and death information for her first husband, George R. Banner.
