I'd like to share our end-of-year 2023 Newsletter. You can read it here: England Project Newsletters. We hope you enjoy reading about what we have achieved in 2023!

We are delighted to announce a new Profile Improvements Team namely the England Tangled Families Team which will be formed by merging the Arborists, Gedcoms and Unknown Teams,
As we know tangled families are created from old GEDCOM’s which cover many generations resulting in the need to merge profiles and having to disconnect others together with finding unknown spouses and family members.
The merging of the existing three teams into one exciting new team will hopefully reduce duplications and definitely will increase collaboration between you our experienced and dedicated members.
Team Leader for the England Tangled Families Team will be Fran Weidman who has agreed to manage the team bringing her excellent knowledge and experience from creating and managing the Unknowns Team together with Fran’s five year membership of the England Project.
Currently as a member of one or more of the named teams we are asking you to join our new amalgamated Tangled Families Team and letting us know by contacting Joan Williams or Malc Rowlands through Discord Messaging, England Project Google Group or Private WT Message if you want to join our new team.
Kind regards
Joan and Malc

Thank you for joining the Mighty Oaks for the Connect-a-Thon. The 65 members who joined our teams were awesome. Our two teams added 12,905 profiles over the weekend. The Branches Team came second and the Roots Team came forth in the overall scores. Both teams were also in the top ten in the normalised scores. I hope you enjoyed it and will be joining us in April when we do it all over again.

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's six-monthly check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.
If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.
If we do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we may assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.
Many thanks!

Regards Jane Nekervis (Nekervis-66) and her marriage aged 13. It had me scratching my head too but I'm trying to work out how my mum (Norma Capel) who has a dozen DNA matches with the Nekervis family also has a DNA match with the descendant of Jane Nekervis and James Tonkin. This descendant and Norma also shares a DNA match with a descendant of Christina Gidley, who is the daughter of Catherine Nekervis (Nekervis-9) who by my thinking can only be connected if Jane and Catherine are sisters, as was the case before you removed the parents? James Tonkin was only 18 and it would appear they married young, very young in Jane's case. Regards Tony

I am perfectly happy chugging away at Team Cornwall and working through OT2; I will never leave my beloved England Project 🤍
I’m interested in profile improvement, and potentially Norfolk Team, but right now I’m happy with where I’m at.
I’m really excited to see how collaborative projects and smaller team-centric challenges play out 🙂

I am aware you posted a comment concerning Cornish wills I am not sure if you are aware of this but if you Google the town and the word wills that should take you to the complete list of wills for that town and the highlighted entries actually show the complete will others just give the reference no. I have found around 25 so far for my relatives

I noticed that you used the Challenge Tracker to track a change during a recent Saturday Sourcing Sprint. Please consider officially joining us for the Saturday Sourcing Sprints. You can find information, including how to join, on the Sprints Help page.
No pressure, every profile with a source makes our WikiTree better. Your work will continue to be included in the Tracking Sheet's Unregistered total at the bottom of the help page if you do not register.
Your work is appreciated. Thanks for sourcing!
Alex - Sourcerer Sprint Co-facilitator
PS If the link does not work, you can find a working one in the public comment I left on your profile.
We've not yet received a reply from you regarding the message we recently sent about the England Project. We hope you're okay! We realise that your interests may have moved on, however, and so of we don't hear from you by the end of December we'll presume that you wish to be removed from the Project. Of course, you'll be welcome to rejoin us at a later time if you wish :)
Regards, Amy, Lizzie & Joan.
I see you made some changes to relationships for John Miller (abt.1680-bef.1743). Before changing relationships, its a good idea to communicate with Profile Managers before making the changes to connections. The Miller families are easily mixed up, as you may know. Thanks.
I have been communicating with Jim Miller in regards to these profiles, and he sent me all the research he had accumulated showing issues with all the relationship. He said he’s been emailing the PMs but had no response, and that he’s been trying to untangle these families for a while. I’m sorry if I stepped on the toes a bit, but checking records and the info on the profiles against what he sent me highlighted that Simon Miller did not belong in the family group, and that the two Miller groups got squished together. After checking the Simon’s locality and the wills, that pushed me up to John son of Simon.
1. Symon Miller 2. John Miller 3. Simon Miller
The repeated use of Simon in the family group compared to the other family group not using it reaffirmed what Jim Miller had sent me.
I hope that sheds light on what was done and why.
As you said, very easy to mix up Millers. If only our forebears didn’t use the same names over and over again.
I will say that this question is probably better placed on the profiles at issue, rather than on this wall. I will add it to the research notes for the profiles.
Sarah
It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around
First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on?
Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Amy, Joan & Lizzie.
It is great to have you join us on WikiTree. We all look forward to working with you. Can you tell me what sort of sources you mainly use for separating the father Daniel Ladd from the son Thomas Ladd? We have created a help page for WikiTreers and we are always looking for more sources to list there.

I referenced the following:
I have been unable to find any original records containing parents, and as multiple sources list different origins (Kent, Devonshire, or just “Unknown”) it would be imprudent to assume parentage.
All the above listed sources are hosted on ancestry.com, and the nehgs portal.
Hope that answers your question! I was searching for parent information and saw the profile was orphaned and weird, so I adopted it and started working on it. (I’m a Ladd descendant through Nathaniel Ladd, 1650-1691)
Thanks,
Sarah

I created an unmatched merges of another Thomas profile due to similarities but haven’t dug into it. That profile has a Vincent Ladd listed as a father but I haven’t verified.
I understand that you felt that since you have found no proof of parentage they should be disconnected. They should be sourced before they are disconnected. The sources you listed, you said do not state who his parents were. In order to disconnect family members, they should always be sourced first. Then they can either be proven or disproven as parent and child. Sourcing requirements are higher for Pre-1700 profiles. Please do make sure that you source your profiles especially the Pre-1700.
Thanks,
Laura
Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
Sources are very important here on Wikitree, especially on Pre-1700 profiles. It is how we show where we got the info and helps others find it too. Find out more about Pre-1700 Profile sourcing here and source citation info here.
The Mayflower project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.
If you have any questions, click “reply” below this message and I will get back to you.

First welcome to WikiTree,
I saw that you just joined WikiTree Glad to have you aboard.
The reason I am writing is that I noticed you chose our Integrators Challenge for this month.
Being that you have not become fully noted as a geneogolist and not familar with how we do things yet, please note that one must be with WikiTree about 3 months to participate. Actually the Integrator challenge is an advanced challenge that we offer.
When you complete a new profile for one of your relatives just skip over checking a challenge when trying to save the profile.
If you have any questions please get with a greeter and they will be glad to help you along the way. Also you can go here to see how we recommend newcomers to get started:

Thanks, Dorothy B. Integrator Project Coordinator
Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. It normally takes 24 hours from adding a test, or adding a new ancestor, or ancestor’s descendant, for WikiTree to display your name and test results on your ancestors and their descendants’ profiles for potential cousins to compare results with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches which relate to the particular branches you are researching.
Have fun!
Hilary ~ WikiTree Greeter
One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
As you have been a member of WikiTree for a few weeks now, I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.
Has the New Member How-To been helpful, or left you with any questions?
These pages may help you with Sources and Adding Sources on WikiTree. The RootSearch tool on every profile is very helpful, you login with the same login as your WikiTree login.
Please see our page about Merges. This page will explain the process, reasons, and guide you through the process of anything having to do with merges. It is very useful information.
I am here to help with any problems or queries you may have. To contact me, be sure to use the "reply" link below this comment so that I will be notified. Alternatively, you can click my name to visit my profile, where you can send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page.

Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. To get the best results, you need to start with yourself and add sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. 24 hours later, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.
Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!
