Biography

Louis Edward Greenleaf was born on Febuary 7, 1891 in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank, NC to Henry Torry Greenleaf, Sr. and Gertrude Beatrice Pool. The family were prominent members of the Pasquotank community and enjoyed spending summers at their beach house in Nags Head.

Louis completed high school and 2 years of college. He married Elizabeth McPherson Weeks on June 1 1913 in Elizabeth City, NC.^[1]

According to Louis's WWI draft registration card, he was of slender build, medium height, had light hair and gray eyes.^[2]

Louis and Elizabeth had two daughters, Elizabeth and Katharine. In 1920, they rented a house on Church Street in Elizabeth City.^[3] Louis worked as a bookkeeper in a lumber mill.

By 1940 the family had moved to 516 Main Street in Elizabeth City. Louis had opened his house to lodgers who rented rooms. He was still working at the lumber mill.^[4] By 1950, he had been promoted to Office Manager.

Louis's wife Elizabeth passed away on July 9,1959. Louis lived as a widower until his death in 1975 of a pulmonary embolism resulting from a hip fracture.^[5] He is buried at Old Hollywood Cemetery in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina.^[6]
