After a long break, we are now getting the New Zealand Project back in action. Would you like to join the Kiwi Crew Discord server? This is where we are discussing how the project will be organised, though any major changes will be signposted in G2G. There is no obligation to take part in challenges, but you may like to discuss NZ history and work with others to create quality New Zealand profiles. We’re a really friendly bunch.
Fiona - New Zealand Project Co-ordinator (Membership)
Registration is now open for the January 2023 Connect-a-Thon, mention The Kiwi Crew when you sign up.
Connect-a-Thon - begins Saturday 13th January 2023 at 2. am NZDT
Hi Deborah,
WikiTree's seventh annual 72-hour sourcing marathon is coming soon!! and The Kiwi Crew is participating. The previous Source-a-Thons have been great fun and very productive. Last year we did almost 57,000. I invite you to join us this year to beat that record! Participation is easy, simply add sources to unsourced profiles.
To register, post an answer on this Post saying "Yes, I'd like to participate with the KiwiCrew". Once registered, you will receive your Source-a-Thon Bib and badge.

I got your request to be added to the trusted list of Knauf-139, I'd rather you replaced me as profile manager and likewise for some of the related profiles that I manage. Since creating these profiles I found a mistake in my research trees and now know that they are not distant cousins. Let me if you want to take over as manager, and which profiles.
Gary
I would prefer to be Knauf-139's profile manager, as he is my maternal grandfather, so I'm delighted that you want me to take over. I am also happy to take over any of the related profiles you currently manage. I've tried to talk my mother's cousin, who has done extensive research on the Knauf side of the family, into joining Wikitree so she could manage the Knauf side, but it seems unlikely that that will happen. So I'll happily take up the mantle.
Best regards, Deborah
Hi Deborah,
Hope you're enjoying WikiTree so far, A group of Kiwis participate in Wiki-Thons four times a year, and we have one coming up in July and I would like to invite you to join the KiwiCrew in the upcoming Connect-A-Thon. Participation is easy, simply create new profiles for unconnected people and with luck, they will connect with the World Tree.
Simply post an answer on this Post saying "Yes, I'd like to participate with the KiwiCrew". Once registered, you will receive your Connect-a-Thon badge.

It looks like this:
I'm in! I've taken the (northern) summer off grad school, so I have some time to spend on one of the things I love.
I'll be joining The_Kiwi_Crew for the Connect-a-Thon. Although I now live in the States, my roots are firmly planted in New Zealand, where my ancestry dates back to circa 1836 on my mother's side. (Dad's side arrived about 25 years later.) answered 2 days ago by Deborah Kunze G2G3 (3.4k points)
Great Deborah! It's going to be a fun weekend! commented 17 hours ago by Mindy Silva G2G6 Pilot
It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:
Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,

Thanks for taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. This is a courtesy email to share the After Adopting Orphans FAQ which explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.
If you will be working with any profiles needing GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Debi
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level. Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Member_How-To
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

I probably shouldn't be trying to learn my way around when my head's congested. :-)
This is just a note to say hi and to let you know that I'm available to answer questions about WikiTree.

Also, how does one go about getting a person disconnected from a family tree that they've been incorrectly attached to? My 2nd great-grandfather, Samuel Henry Given, has been attached to an Alexander and Catherine Given. I understand why. The same has happened on a number of online genealogy sites. But I determined years ago that Alexander and Catherine are not Samuel Henry's parents. The dates are all wrong, and they emigrated from Scotland to the USA, while Samuel and two of his brothers emigrated from Ireland to New Zealand.

First, I suggest that you take your time to learn a bit about WikiTree and how it works. To do that just take a look at the New Member How To link that I posted above. Go through it step by step until you are comfortable with where to locate and navigate various aspects. About your 2nd great grandfather's parents - first enter your parents, grandparents, etc. until you reach that place on your tree. Then, reach out to the profile manager and explain the discrepancy in his parents. If you have sources for the correct parents or sources to disprove the wrong ones, that will help a lot.
To introduce yourself to the community go to the G2G Forum - https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/
Take care and let us know when you have questions!
