Donald Munro Gill was born on 4th July 1918 in St Peters, New South Wales, Australia.
On 28th March 1940 Don enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force, Australia's overseas expeditionary force during the Second World War, and was posted to the Signals Platoon, 2/1st Machine Gun Battalion. He was demobilised on 27th November 1945. [1] During service he was best mates with James Bell Moody. Following the war, he was issued the 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
