Sarah Emily (Gibson) Jones was an African-American educator, leader, and poet.
She was born on April 13, 1845 in Virginia to Daniel and Mary Gibson.
Career
From 1875 until her retirement in 1911, she taught at the Elm Street Colored School in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati. She was part of the Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, and was named Poet Laureate of the Ohio Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs [1]

From 1850-1860, Sarah was living in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her parents.[2][3]
In 1870, Sarah was living in Springfield, College Hill, Hamilton, Ohio, with her husband and child.[4]
In 1880-1900, Sarah was living in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA.[5][6] In 1880, she lived with her son. It appeared that her husband lived elsewhere (not clear if divorced or not).[7]
Sarah died on October 21, 1938 in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama aged 93, and was buried in Cincinnati. [8][9]
