Josh Gibson was an American Negro League baseball catcher. Baseball historians consider Gibson to be among the best power hitters and catchers in baseball.[1]
Joshua Gibson was born on 21 Dec 1911 in Buena Vista, Georgia, the son of Mark Gibson (1885 - 1945) and Nancy Woodlock (~1894 - 1965). Josh's brother Jerry would also play in the Negro Leagues.
Joshua married Helen Mason (1912 - 1930) in 1928. They had twins, Helen and Joshua Gibson Jr. Josh Jr. would follow his father's footsteps and become a Negro League baseball player.
In 1940, Joshua married his second wife Hattie Burney (~1908 - ) on 19 Nov 1940 in Alabama City, Alabama.
Joshua died of a stroke on 20 Jan 1947 in Pittsburgh at the age of 35.[2]
