In 1659, Jeanne Mance was in France recruiting for Montréal. Simon Cardinal and his family are among the people recruited, several related families are on the voyage. They had to borrow money from Mlle Mance to survive and get aboard the ship, which was the Saint-André.

It's only in 1669 that many of them will finish reimbursing Jeanne Mance, they will receive a quitclaim from her before notary Bénigne Basset.[3]

The Saint-André leaves La Rochelle in July 1659. For 2 years, it had served as a hospital for the troops of the navy, but had not been disinfected in any way. There will be around 18 deaths by illness during the voyage because of this. The trip lasted 2 months, with multiple storms slowing it down. It finally arrived before Québec city on 9 September 1659, a number of passengers being sick. Finally, on 29 September Marguerite Bourgeoys, who was also on this voyage, will arrive in Montréal with the recruits able to get there.[3]

Other relatives / Autres parenté

Catherine Avrard per Gervais Carpin is actually niece to the 3 Garnier sisters.[13]

Note: Per this site, Catherine Avrard is cousin to Anne Archambault in some manner, either as niece to the Garnier sisters or to Olivier Archambault. http://www.genealogie.org/club/sglevis/publications/SGLevisV6N1.pdf (sorry French only) It also gives a relation of the various families that came together at the same time, and their contract with Jeanne Mance who covered their costs (image included).
NOTE: Her father's and mother's names are uncertain.

Not to be confused together / À ne pas confondre

There was a Charles Garnier married to a Jeanne La Braye/Braye in France, his daughter Louise came to Canada as a single woman, she married in Montréal in 1658. The church records are clear as to all the names concerned. He was already deceased in France when his daughter married. She is Louise Garnier. She is NOT the same woman as Louise Garnier, sister of Michelle, who came to Canada with her husband Simon Cardinal. Not to be confused together.

Garnier-668 and Garnier-128 appear to represent the same person because: I recently added Garnier-669 and then found out it is a duplicate of Garnier-128. If you agree please merge them. Merci.

Hi, my 2 requests were to merge Garnier-669 to Garnier-78, and Garnier-668 to Garnier-128. Both of these appear to be completed.
