Leeds & Grenville Co, 1858, Vol 28, Page 2, Returned by Rev ROSSITER, Minister of R. Catholic Church

Israel GARANT, 48, St Polycarpe - Co Vaudr, Howe Island, s/o Charles GARANT & Margaret DORION; married Mary CONNORS, 38, Co Cork Ireland, Howe Island, d/o Michael CONNORS & Ann GALVIN; witn Patrick QUINN, Howe Island, 26 Jul 1858 --- Index to Wills Probated, Frontenac County, Ontario: “Israel Garron II 62”, not sure what this refers to, but in Probate Records Book, he’s No. 563 on pages 817-819. His probate papers packet is number 1575.

Absolutely sure that the Israel Garrow who died ⅔ November 1891 is the father of Julia Budd as she is explicitly mentioned in his will by her married name. --- Called ‘Israel Garron’ in probate records. Gravestone and probate records both have 3 November 1891 death date while a death record shows 2 November 1891. --- Estimated birthdate appears to vary widely: 1851 Census suggest abt. 1824; 1861 Census suggests abt. 1814; 1871 Census suggests abt. 1816; 1881 Census suggests abt. 1811. His death record lists him as what might be either 86 or 80 and gravestone looks like it says 86. Marriage record (to Mary Connors) suggests abt. 1810. Given that census and marriage record data would likely be more accurate than what survivors may’ve provided for the death record and gravestone, I’m inclined to believe he was born in the 1810s. But, given the parents’ names given in Israel’s marriage record Charles Garand + Margaret St. Jean / Dorion, it is possible that the Laurent Israël Garant born 10 August 1820 and baptized 12 August 1820 in the parish of Saint-Joseph-de-Soulanges is indeed this Israel Garrow. The only way it wouldn’t be him is if there were another Charles Garand + Margaret in Saint-Polycarpe at the same time - Saint-Polycarpe appears to have been covered by Les Cèdres before its formation.

Regardless of the date, the mention of Saint-Polycarpe in the record of his marriage to Mary Connors as well as the numerous references to the parish in his eldest son’s Civil War pension claim documentation have me convinced that that the family is connected to this place, which is adjacent to Les Cèdres.

I am searching the Garrah Genealogy and am a little confused, I found in one place A Charles Garand married a Marguerite Martin and in another place a Marguerite Dorian--does anyone know which one is right. My grandfather wa Henry Garrah son of Israel Garrah and Mary O'Conner
