Biography

Roy was born in Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia during 1903. He is the son of Herbert Freemantle and Edith Lay. He passed away in Camberwell, Victoria, Australia during 1972.

Roy was born in Hawthorn, Victoria on 15 October 1903 to Herbert Freemantle and Edith Lay.^[1][2]

Roy married Mary Fairley in Hawthorn, Victoria on 1 May 1937.^[3][4] The following marriage notice was published in the Victorian newspaper, The Argus, on 1 May 1937:^[4]

FREEMANTLE—FAIRLEY - On the 9th March at the Presbyterian church. Hawthorn, Melbourne In the Rev Hugh Kelly, Roy youngest son of Mrs F Freemantle, Power Street, Hawthorn Victoria to Molly only daughter of Mr and Mrs James Fairley, National Bank Adelaide.

Roy served in the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War. He enlisted on 23 February 1942 and was discharged on 4 December 1945 with the rank of Flight Lieutenant with a posting to the Air Defence HQ Melbourne.^[2]

Roy died in Camberwell, Victoria on 15 May 1972 at the age of 68 years.^[5][6]

Roy's remains were cremated and interred at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery in Springvale, Victoria on 16 May 1972.^[7]
