Biography

Alexander (Forbes) Forbes Eleventh Lord Forbes is a member of Clan Forbes.

Alexander Forbes was born in 1600 at Putachie Castle, Keig, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the eldest son and heir of Arthur Forbes, 10th Lord Forbes and his wife, Lady Jean Elphinstone.^[1]

Alexander Forbes embraced a military career as an Army officer, fighting with the Scottish Army in Ireland. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1643 while in Ireland. Afterwards he emigrated to continental Europe, serving Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus during the 30 Years War (1618-1648) in north Germany. He died in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 20, 1672.

Alexander Forbes succeeded to the title as 11th Lord Forbes in September 1641, upon the death of his father, Arthur Forbes, 10th Lord Forbes.^[2]

He had 2 marriages:

1. Anne Forbes, daughter of Sir John Forbes, 8th Lord of Pitsligo and Christian Ogilvy. Their oldest son & heir was

Lieutenant General Alexander Forbes, 11th Lord Forbes, died on April 20, 1672 in Stockholm, Kingdom of Sweden. He was succeeded by his son, William Forbes, 12th Lord Forbes, b: 1620 in Scotland.
