Jean Elizabeth Floyd (married name Allen) was born in 19th May 1916 in Malvern, Victoria, Australia, daughter of James Floyd.
Jean completed nursing training and was registered as a nurse.
On 17 July 1941 Jean was commissioned as a nurse into the Australian Army Nursing Service and attached to the 2/10th Australian General Hospital (AGH), then based in Malaya. She was later transferred to the 2/13th AGH.[1] Along with 58 other Australian nurses and many civilians, including women and children, Jean was evacuated from Singapore on 12 February aboard the Empress Star. The ship made port safely at Batavia (Jakarta) and later in Australia. Jean was with 2/14th AGH at Singapore at the end of the war. She was aboard the aeroplane that evacuated the Vyner Brooke nurse-survivors from Lahat, Sumatra to Singapore on 11 September 1945.[2] Jean was discharged from the AANS on 15 January 1947.
