Philip Christian Enders entered the German Army during the Seven Years War (1756-1763), fighting in numerous battles, serving under Prince Wilhelm Heinrich. Philip served with distinction and rose to the rank of Captain and was assigned to the Royal Guard, serving in the Royal Household of Prince Henry of Nassau. He resigned his commission on February 20, 1764 and on May 14, 1764 married Anna Apolonia Degen.
On June 27, 1764, Philip and Anna left their homeland and sailed on the English ship "Jeneffer," arriving in Philadelphia on November 5, 1764. They eventually settled in Jackson Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Captain Enders served in the American Revolution in the Pennsylvania Militia.
Philip and Anna had 14 children. Today, over 1000 of their descendants are members of The Enders Family Association. Anna died in 1796 and Philip in 1809. Both were buried in a family plot not far from their homestead. A group of descendants organized in 1885 and formed The Enders Monumental Association. In 1890 they erected a memorial monument. A second monument was erected in 1984.
