First Generation
John Teter Elrod was born ca. 1684. Sources disagree on whether he was from Hessen, Germany, or from Switzerland. "Johan Dider Elroot", wife and one child, also "Johan Willem Lergerseiler", wife and one child, all sailed from Rotterdam 15 July 1709. Wilhelm Lerchenzeiler was the father, or possibly the brother, of John Teter's wife Maria Magdalena Lerchenzeiler. Both families settled initially in New Castle County, Delaware where they are listed as communicants in Holy Trinity Church.
Maria Margaretha apparently died about 1721, and John Teter married again,

Notes from Larry Elrod
You say marriage was in Palatinate 3 July 1709; this is not possible, as he was in Rotterdam @ that time preparing to sail for London. Record says he was with wife and 1 child. His wife's parents were in that same group of Palatine immigrants.
You show his death as 1739 in Monocacy. There is a reference to "Ditrich Elrod" in Elk Ridge Landing, Maryland in 1748.[2] This wasn't likely a reference to his son, Johan Dieterich, Jr., as he was only 14 at the time. Just thought I would pass this on.

My 8th great grandfather. My mother's paternal grandmother was an Elrod. She died before my mother was born. She died in childbirth when my grandfather was about 3 or 4 years old. I remember by mother mentioning that her paternal grandmother was an Elrod, but I didn't think much about it at the time because I was so young. I had no idea the name was German until I looked it up on the internet a couple of months ago.
Yes Elizabeth I agree on all points. And there is no revcord that I can find having his mname Deitrich. His name is John Teter Elrod. I spell my name the same way Elrod.
Just wanted to mention that I've been "listening," and I'm good with whatever you all work out. I haven't done much research on this line myself, so I can't register an official opinion. :)
I would like to suggest that any changes you make to the names also be reflected in the Biography here. Thanks!!
Although his daughters probably married before the name was anglicized, to the best of my knowledge all male descendant lines adopted the Elrod spelling. If we're listing John Teter himself as Elrod (and I think we should), then let's make that the primary spelling for all of his children, but listing Elroot, Ellroth or whatever has been used in historical records for each individual as an alternate.
I do agree that the childrens name need to be looked into and changed accordingly. But we must be careful to only suggest changes to the children who did not change the spelling,
Also, could we change the date for his first marriage to "before 1708", since it's clear from the emigration records that Wilhelm was already living when they left Rotterdam in July 1709.
Thanks, Jen! We're glad to have you working on this. I've seen Dider, and also Dieter, for him, but not Dieterich. Also, I suspect the German baptismal name would be Johann rather than Johannes. Would you and Julie be OK with changing his listing to Johann Dider as the birth name, and John Teter as the anglicized name? I also think we should list him and all his children as Elrod, with Ellroth, Elroot, etc. as alternative names, since as far as I know the American descendants consolidated on the Elrod spelling. (That means fixing Anna Margaretha [my ancestor] and Thomas among his children.)
