Charles was born on 28 June 1908 in Cooranbong, NSW, the eldest child to Alfred Royce and Nellie EDGTTON. He married Margaret Hamilton PEATTIE on 8 April 1933 when he was nearly twenty-five, about six months before the birth of their only child Alfred Royce 'Roy'. Was it a shot-gun wedding? Charles was 6'4" tall and worked at the coal-powered electricity stations around Lake Macquarie. He is referred to as a carrier, a labourer, a shunter and a carpenter. He died in 1989 at 80 years of age from prostate cancer. He was cremated at Newcastle Memorial Park in Beresfield. His last home was in Marks Parade, Marks Point NSW facing south on the waterfront of Lake Macquarie. Not a lot is known about him as there was a rift in the family after the death of his only son in 1973. It is not known what happened, but he never saw his grandchildren again after January 1976.
