Biography

Elisha was born about 1799. He is the son of Nathaniel Eaton (1772–1860) and Anna Cronk (1766–1826), who married about 1797. Ann Unknown.

On 14 June 1818, Elisha married Vashti "Vesta" McAllister. They had the following children:

Ebenezer Eaton 14 July 1820 – 7 January 1882

William M. Eaton 17 February 1822 – 24 January 1895

Anne Eaton Benedict 6 June 1824 - After 1880

Zoe Eaton 7 January 1828 – 11 October 1907

Vesta died in 1830. In 1831, Elisha married Zimrode Almira Ingraham in Ohio. They had the following children:

Turpin Eaton 18 April 1832 – 4 September 1918

Margaret Rosanna Eaton Haskell 1840–1883

Zimrode died in 1848. Elisha then married his widowed first cousin, Alzina Tennant Hazzard.

In 1850, Elisha (age 51) and Alzina [Almira] (age 44) farmed in Summerhill, Cayuga County, New York, with Alzina's daughter Betsey Ann Hazard (age 17), and Elisha's children from his first and second marriages: Zoe (age 22), Turpin [Tirhin] (age 18), and Margaret Rosanna (age 9).

In 1855, Elisha (age 56) and Alzina [Alsina] (age 51) lived in Summerhill with Elisha's daughters: Ann (age 28) and Zoe [Zoa] (age 24). Also in the household was a girl named "Truelove" Eaton (age 14), who is listed as a sibling, but would be the same age as Margaret Rosanna Eaton, daughter of Elisha and Zimrode Almira Ingraham.

In 1860, Elisha [Elishua] and Alzina [Alsina] (age 56) farmed in Summerhill with Mary A. Eaton (age 8). The farm was valued at $1,200. Mary may have been a granddaughter, but her parents are unknown.

In 1870, Elisha (age 72) lived in Polk, Benton County, Iowa, in the household of Mary A Retteman (age 66) and her granddaughter, Becca A Retteman (age 12). Elisha was a shoemaker.

In 1880, Elisha (age 72) lived in Polk with his son and daughter-in-law, Turpin (age 48) and Chloe Spaulding (age (46), and their children: Martha Eaton (age 15), Frank Pauly (age 14), and Edwin R. Eaton (age 9). Elisha was a shoemaker.

In 1885, Elisha (age 82) lived on the family farm in Polk with Turpin (age 52) and Chloe [Corey] (age 51), and their son Edwin [Edward] (age 13).
