Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp (Wyatt Earp) was an American gambler, deputy sheriff (Pima County, AZ), and deputy marshal (Tombstone, AZ) who took part in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Wyatt Earp was born on 19 March 1848 in Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois to parents Nicholas Earp and Virginia (Cooksey) Earp. The 1850 census[1] shows Wyatt living with his family in Lake Prairie, Marion, Iowa.
The 1860 census[2] shows that they are still in the same place where his father is listed as a farmer just as in 1850.
Wyatt's brothers enlisted[3] in the Union Army but when 13 year old Wyatt attempted to enlist he was stopped by his father and left to attend the farm. In 1864 his father lead a wagon train to California and brought Wyatt and his brothers. There Wyatt took work on the Transcontinental Railroad[4] along with his brothers. Wyatt traveled around after that and landed in Missouri.
On 10 Jan 1870 Wyatt married Aurilla Sutherland in Lamar, Missouri. The 1870 census[5] shows them living together in Lamar, Barton, Missouri. Aruilla gave birth to an infant on 10 Oct 1870. Unfortunately they both perished in the event and they are burried[6] at Howell Cemetery, Milford, Barton County, Missouri.
In 1875 Wyatt is listed (line 25) on the Kansas state census[7] as residing in Sedgwick, Harvey, Kansas, with his brother James.
Around 1876 in Dodge City, Wyatt was living with a common law wife[8] named Mattie (Celia Blaylock) Earp. The rough life of addiction and prostitution spoiled the affair. Mattie moved out to California and waited for Wyatt there. However Wyatt did not return to be with her.
The thrilling events that lead up to his meeting with Doc Holiday in 1878 can be seen in[9] Wikipedia. The 1880 census[10] shows Wyatt living with his brothers and their gals in Tombstone. Arizona.
The famous gunfight at the OK Coral occurred on 26 Oct 1881 where the Earps and Doc Holliday killed three adversaries there in Tombstone Arizona. His brother Morgan was murdered in 1882 and Wyatt is implicated in the revenge killings for that. He headed out to California after these events. Wyatt is listed[11] in the 1883 San Francisco city directory. Wyatt is thought to have married Josephine Marcus around this time. The 1910 census shows them living together in Los Angeles, California.
Wyatt Berry Strap Earp passed away in Los Angeles on 13 Jan 1929. He is burried at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo County, California next to his beloved Josephine.

In his new (2017) book, DODGE CITY, Tom Clavin says that Wyatt's first wife was Aurilla Sutherland. He says that she was born 10 JAN 1850 in Illinois. She was the sixth child, second daughter of parents William and Permelia Sutherland, city people from New York. Born in Illinois, her family moved south to Lamar, Missouri, when she was ten years old. The Sutherlands owned and operated William's Exchange Hotel in the Lamar town square, which was three doors from a shop where Nicholas sold baked goods and oysters. Justice of the Peace, Nicholas Earp married Wyatt & Aurilla on 16 JAN 1870, six days after her 20th birthday. Aurilla was soon pregnant, and Wyatt was elected constable. In August, 1870, Wyatt bought a house next door to his parents and their two youngest and also next to Newton.
Everything was going so well for Wyatt and Aurilla!!! Then Aurilla died and the infant did not survive.
Wyatt fell apart and hit a downward spiral. He became a horse thief. He paid bail. He was never convicted. He became a buffalo hunter. He had several brushes with the law. Then Wyatt went to Wichita and found redemption.
