Biography

GORHAM DUMMER,^[1] born at Hallowell, 27 Sep 1782 son of Nathaniel Dummer and Mary Owen;^[2] Gorham died at Hallowell, 2 Jan 1805;^[3] married at Concord, 29 Apr 1802,^[4] SARAH “SALLY” ABBOT, born at Concord, New Hampshire, 16 Dec 1775^[5] daughter of Joshua Abbott and Elizabeth Chandler;^[6] Sally died at Hallowell, Maine, 1 Dec 1841,^[7]

The Dummer family was prominent in Kennebec County, Maine having a street named for the family, the donation of a family home to Bowdoin College, and the founding of Dummer Academy through a bequest from Lieutenant Governor William Dummer.^[8] Gorham’s father Nathaniel Dummer was the builder of historic Dummer House on Dummer’s Lane in Hallowell. This house was slated for relocation in 2018 to make way for a parking lot which will also absorb Dummer’s Lane.^[9]
