Margaret was the daughter of Edmund Sutton or Dudley of Dudley Castle, Staffordshire, and his second wife Maud Clifford. Her parents were married sometime after 1460, when Maud's first husband had died, possibly by 1461. The date of her birth is uncertain since the birth order of their children is not known. [1]
Thomas Musgrave is the only child for whom any records have been found.
Sir John Musgrave was dead by October 1515. Margaret survived him, as she was involved in a lawsuit following his death, although the exact date of the suit is not known.[6]
Research Notes
Margaret is sometimes said in older pedigrees to have married Edward Grey, Lord Powys. [7] Some pedigrees also say that John Musgrave's wife was Dorothy Dudley. In his article on the Dudleys, Glazebrook addresses this issue and makes clear that Margaret Dudley married John Musgrave and Dorothy Dudley married Richard Wrottesley. There was no Powys marriage for either.[1]
There has also been a confusion between her husband John Musgrave (d. 1515) and a later John Musgrave, who also married a Dudley, one of the Dudleys of Yanwath.[8]
