Biography

He joined the rising of 1745, but after the Jacobites were defeated he fled to France, and he was attainted and lost his titles and land. He received a commission in the Royal Ecossais, a regiment of Scots exiles serving in the French army. The family repurchased the estates in 1765 and the title was restored in 1824.
