William Drummond, 4th Viscount Strathallan was the son of Sir John Drummond, 3rd of Machany and Margaret Stewart. He married Hon. Margaret Nairne Murray, daughter of William Murray, 2nd Lord Nairne and Margaret Nairne, circa 1 November 1712.
He was active in the 1715 Jacobite rebellion and joined the rising of 1745. He was appointed Maj. Gen. when Prince Charles launched his campaign, He fought several actions, and he was killed in action 16 April 1746 at the Battle of Culloden.
He was included in an Act of Attainder 1746 along with his son.[1]
