Ellen was born Helen Dow on the 15th of February, 1832, and baptised on the 18th in Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, the daughter of Alexander Dow and Elizabeth Mcrobie.[1]
At 45, on the 29th of February, 1876, a resident of Queen Street, Dunedin, she died of cancer and was buried on the 2nd of March, 1876, in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand, Lot 16, Block 18.[4]
