Henry was born on 16 January 1846 in Guildford, Western Australia, the son of Isaac Doust and Emily Martin.[1]
He married Elizabeth Chapman on 1 May 1872 at Bunbury.[2] They had nine children over 22 years.
Henry employed two Ticket of Leave men from 1872-1874. He was a storekeeper in Bridgetown in the 1870s, and a hotelkeeper of "Farmers Hotel" 1887-1890. He moved in 1890 to his farm "Geegeelup".[2]

On Friday afternoon last the funeral of the remains of Mr Henry Doust took place at the new Bridge town Cemetery. As was but fitting a large number of residents paid the last tribute, to the deceased of fol lowing his body to its last long resting place. The cortege, was a long one and included 55 vehicles, the procession being considerably over a mile in length. Numerous wreaths and floral tributes were sent, most of the public bodies in the district sending handsome tributes of regret at the death of one who bad so often in years gone by sat at their council tables.
The Rev. Mr. Davies conducted the last solemn rites at the graveside, and Mr. F. H. Dakin was in charge of the funeral arrangements. The colfln was a handsome casket of polished jarrah with silver fittings. The pall bearers were Messrs. J. R. Walter, R. C. Williams, George Stephens and Alf. Waddington.[3]
