Biography

Lord Alfred Douglas son of John Sholto Douglas, Marquess of Queensberry and his wife, Sibyl Montgomery, was born at Ham Hill House, Powick in Worcestershire on 22 October 1870. He was educated at Winchester College and Magdalen College, Oxford. [1]

In June 1891 he was introduced to poet and playwright Oscar Wilde and they soon embarked upon an affair. [2]

He married in 1902. [3] His wife was Olive Eleanor Custance. [4]

Lord Alfred died on 20 March 1945 aged 74 leaving an estate valued at £1516 having appointed farmer, Edward William Colman as his executor. [5] His death was registered in Worthing. [6] He was buried with his mother at the Friary Churchyard of St Francis and St Anthony, Crawley in Sussex. [7]
