Simon was born in 1841. Listed below is the information - word for word - from Simon Dobson's birth certificate:

"....Record of Birth and Baptism: To these two parents as Adam Dobson and his wife Catherine, a daughter of Philip Reed, was born a son on the seventeenth day of February in the year of our Lord 1841 This child was born in Perry Township in Jefferson County in the State of Pennsylvania in North America; was baptized by the Rev'd John Atthouse and received the name of Simon Dobson."

In the 1860 United States Census, Simon was 19, listed as a farmer A 'Simon Dobson' served in the Civil War as a Private in the Union Army from Pennsylvania. He enlisted September 23, 1864. in the 51st Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers. The regiment mustered out July 27, 1865.

The list below embraces the casualties from the 17th June to August, 18th, 1864, and then from November 29th, 1864, up to the fall of Petersburg, April 3d, 1865 Co. A. Wounded Capt. Jos. K. Bolton, Privates Simon Dobson, Lewis Myers, Lucius Lake, Jonathan Weeber. Cap tured Nelson Y. Mattis

Mustered out with company, July 27, 1865. Dobson, Simon, priv. Wounded, April 1, 1865, in front of Petersburg, Va. Died, April 3, 1865, from wounds.

Simon is entered as the father, and his wife as Elizabeth Yeager in the 1898 Washington State marriage register of their son William to Sutter, thus reasonable to believe it was her real name. After he passed away his wife either re-married or moved West with some family members, taking the children with her."

He passed away April 3, 1865 result of battle wounds.
