Michigan 1894 census list Charles Dobson as a Civil War vet living in Colfax County, Michigan.

Enlisted in company B, Twenty-fourth Infantry, March 5, 1865, at Detroit, for 1 year, age 20. Mustered March 6, 1865. Joined regiment at Springfield, Ill., March 18, 1865. Mustered out at Detroit, Mich., June 30, 1865. Died Feb. 26, 1896. Buried at Cleon, Michigan.^[1]

NOTE DUE TO HENRY GABLE In the will of Henry Gable, Township of Cleon, County of Manistee, dated 2/21/1888, the following notes due found for Charles Dobson and his father-in-law Alonzo Chubb. I Henry Gable do this day will to Mary Plowman a note of hand against Elonza Chubb. Said note caling fer one hundred and fifty two dollars with interest. I Henry Gable d this day will to Joseph Gable a note of hand against Charles Dobson. Said note calling fer one hundred dollars and interest Due on note.

Elected sheriff of Benzie County in 1895.^[2]
