Biography

Stuart was born in 1916. He attended Shore School where he was close friends with Peter Finch (actor) and Paul Brickhill (author of Dam Busters, Great Escape & Reach For The Sky). [1]

STUART HENRY DIBLEY served with the Royal Australian Air Force; Service Number: 424160[3]; attached to the 459 SQUADRON attaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant. STUART HENRY enlisted on Saturday, 15 August 1942 at and was released from service on Wednesday, 19 September 1945.

While with the RAAF, flying with 459 Squadron in the Middle East and then out of Britain, he met his future wife Joanna Landen who was with the WAAF.

After the war Stuart and Joan were married on 26th January 1947 in North Sydney and he returned to his career in radio becoming the Chief Radio Announcer with Station 2HD in Newcastle.[4]

He was a foundation and active member of numerous committees such as Air Force Assoc., Actors Equity, Australia Day, Vietnam Veterans Assoc. and Fighter World in Newcastle. On 25th September he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to veterans.

Stuart died on 15 Oct 2002 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, aged 86. [5]

Stuart was mentioned on a memorial in The New South Wales Garden of Remembrance, Rookwood, Cumberland Council, New South Wales, Australia with a death date of 15 October 2002.[6]
