Biography

Davis was born in 1858. He is the son of Archibald Dewey and Lucina Rich.

He married Mary Cornelia Hopkins, 29 Jun 1886 in Madison, Dane, Wisconsin. Her parents were James Campbell Hopkins and Cornelia Bradley.

Glad to. Starting out with Profile Dewey-1431 - it was shown that Davis Rich Dewey had a spouse identified with Profile Lucina Rich-4148, who has a DOB of Sep. 12, 1830. At the same time, the Profile Dewey-1431 has also a "Mother" identified with the Profile Lucina Rich-4148, who also has a DOB of Sep 12, 1830, obviously the same Profile. Following this it would be implausible that Dewey-1431 has a mother and a spouse, who are bot the same person. Based on the DOB of Davis Rich Dewey and the DOB of Lucina Rich it would be very likely that Lucina could be his mother, and very unlikely that a woman almost 30 years his senior would be his spouse. And since it could not be both linked to Davis Rich Dewey as spouse and mother, Lucina was unlinked as "spouse" and remained as "mother". In addition, the Bio for Davis Rich Dewey is stating that his spouse was a certain "Mary Cornelia Hopkins" it would be evident that Lucina Rich was not his spouse. Hope that will answer your doubts?

You state “it was shown that Davis Rich Dewey had a spouse identified with Profile Lucina Rich-4148”; where is it shown please? The 5th line in the profile shows ‘spouse’ as unknown. I have checked Rich-4148’s profile, it shows her as the wife of Archibald and the mother of Dewey-1431 & Dewey-1430, also I’ve checked Archibald’s profile, and it is all consistent. So, I still do not understand.

I have not checked all the sources yet, but I am expecting to be able to change the ‘spouse’ field on Dewey-1431 to ‘Mary Cornelia Hopkins’ sometime soon.

It was only a few weeks ago that I found out how significant this ‘sub-group’ of families was for my Dewey family DNA research. I am slowly going through all the profiles, adopting any ‘orphan’ ones, checking/updating sources and the text.
