Biography

Mercy Delano, the daughter of Jonathan Delano and Mercy Warren Delano was born in 1686 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. She died at Tolland, Connecticut. She married Joseph Hatch. They had eight children who were born at Coventry (apparently in the part that is now Tolland) or Tolland.

Mercy married Joseph Hatch about 1712. After her death Joseph married Rebecca (Parker) Lathrop on May 16, 1734 in Tolland CT.[1] "Mercy did not marry William Spooner as stated in the "Spooner Descendants"

Children with Joseph Hatch:

  1. Amey Hatch (10 Oct 1713 Tolland Twp, Tolland, Conneticut[2] – 1756)
  2. Joseph Hatch (12 Sep 1715 Tolland Twp, Tolland, Conneticut[3] – 1773)
  3. Mercy/Marcy Hatch (23 Aug 1717 Tolland, Conneticut[4] – 1771)
  4. Jonathan Hatch (29 Sep 1718 Tolland, Connecticut[5] – 1742)
  5. Child Hatch 1721–1721
  6. Son Hatch 1722–1722
  7. Lois Hatch 1724–1812
  8. Alice Hatch 1726–1769

Death & Burial

She died at Tolland on June 18, 1733, and was buried at what is now referred to as the South Yard Cemetery, Tolland, Tolland, Connecticut. June 18 can be read on the stone.[6] An earlier reading of the stone says she died 18 June 1753, age 45.[7] 1753 age 45 would have placed her birth in 1708. 1733 age 45 places her birth at 1688, which is near the correct date.

Hatch-4252 and Delano-91 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, dates, etc, her maiden name is Delano.....not Hatch.

The silver books says she is not the wife of Spooner. I am removing Spooner. He must have married a different Mercy Delano. Hatch remarried in 1734 so this Mercy died before that date.

In response to private message: "Is it possible that The Mercy Delano-91 who married William Spooner is not the same woman who married Joseph Hatch? (Delano-91) the children's births seem simultaneous. See: Delano-1102 (different Delano parents) I'm trying to untie this knot & could use your input."

Since both these men, Hatch and Spooner, died in 1750, they were probably not married to the same woman. There is a marriage record for Spooner and a Mercy Delano in 1713 (now on his profile). and "Joseph Hatch of Falmouth, and Dorcas Sprague, Married Jan. 10, 1710, in Duxborough. This does not eliminate his remarriage shortly to a Mercy Delano. Unfortunately the birth records of children don't name a mother

I wouldn't merge the two Mercy's yet. More research needs to be done.
