Mary Sophia Deane is the daughter of Lt. Robert Deane, RN and Sarah Jane Willis Deane. Mary is featured in the family photo with her parents and siblings. She is standing between her parents at the age of 2 years.

Mary accompanied her family on a long voyage from India to the USA in 1868-1870 time frame. She was counted in the 1870 U.S. Federal Census.[1] Details of the voyage can be found on her father's profile.

Mary married Albert B. Taylor and they had eight children, including a daughter whose married name was "Elsie Deane Taylor Finne." From circumstantial evidence we can surmise that Mary inherited the silver medal that Her Majesty Queen Victoria awarded Lt. Robert Deane, RN when Robert and Jane passed away. According to family discussions, and a letter from a mysterious "Barbara" (the last name of whom needs to be identified), Elsie Deane Taylor Finne was at one time in possession of the silver medal. Elise was kind enough to take a photograph of the silver medal, both obverse and reverse, and send it to her first cousin once removed, Mr. Raymond Irivne Dawson, Jr., the first cousin once removed of Marion Ceruti who now has the photographs.

Mary is believed to have passed away in or near her home in Yonkers, New York, USA where the Taylors lived. Elsie Deane Taylor Finne has confirmed her death year in her family historical records. Elsie annotated the back of Mary's primary photo, "Photo of Mary Sophia Deane Taylor (Mrs. Albert Beak Taylor of Yonkers, N.Y. 1915. A wonderful woman, wife, and mother. DTF"

Unfortunately, Mary did not live long enough to attend her daughter, Elsie's, graduation in 1920 from Denison University in Ohio, USA. It is unknown whether Mary attended her daughter, Blanche's graduation in 1919 from Denison University. Mary passed away before daughters Blanche or Elsie were married.

Mary is conspicuous by her absence in the 1920 United States Census. This is further evidence of her death prior to the 1920 Census. Given that her surviving family was living in Yonkers, Westchester County, New York the following year, as recorded in the 1920 United States Census, the place of death is more likely to have been Yonkers than Brooklyn.
