Mr. Samuel Dawson, who died at Kapunda a few days ago, was born on March 23, 1828, at Newbliss, County Monoghan, Ireland. He arrived in South Australia in the British Empire in 1850 with his parents, and the family settled between Macclesfield and Strathalbyn at farming and dairying. In 1852, Mr. Dawson went to the Bendigo goldfields with his brother Henry and his brother-in-law (Richard Hanna). In 1854 at Gumeracha he was farming on South Australian Company's land, and in 1866 settled at Waterloo, on the River Light, where he carried on farming and grazing. Later he was at Mernowie, Marrabel, and for the last four years had lived in retirement at Kapunda. He was a member of the Midland Road Board and Chairman of the Waterloo District Council for many years. Two younger brothers survive him, viz., James and John Dawson, of Condobolin, New South Wales, and a sister (Mrs. Richard Hanna, of Pekina). The deceased has left a widow, two daughters, and two sons—Messrs. S. L. Dawson, of Malvern, and A. Dawson, of Kapunda.
