George Davis was born abt. 1616. He was a sea captain and came to America in 1641, settled at Lynn, moved to Salem, and later to Reading, Mass. He died 14 July 1677 at sea off of Cape Fear. A close reading of the Will of George Davis "Being bound for Cape Feare" shows it was dated 7 Dec 1664."In case I die".. He did not die until 14 July 1667 at Reading, MA, where he was buried. Thus he returned safely from his 1664 voyage. The Will stated:. wife and son Benjamin, execs. to son Joseph what he has in the ship and the weaver's loom; 5 daus under age; bro Wm. Clark of Lynn, one of the overseers. [1]
Wife's name given as Sarah either Clark, Colt or Coult in U.S., New England Marriages Prior to 1700. Also that Sarah married 2nd to Nicholas Rest, Resse or Rice[2]
His will was proved September, 1667. Widow Sarah, married 2nd about 1671 a Nicholas Le Risse or Risse (later called Rist). [3]
