Find A Grave memorial #66813818 states that Mary's last name at birth was Carter, but no source is given for that statement and I have not been able to find any support for it other than unsourced family trees. ^[1] There are at least two secondary sources stating that her parents were John Davis and Jane Miles Davis. ^[2][3]

Research Notes

Year of marriage uncertain, possibly because of transition from Julian to Gregorian calendar that affected dates between Jan. 1 and March 25. Pennsylvania Marriage Records says 1738; Colonial Families of the USA says 1739. First child was born in January 1739, so 1738 seems more likely.
