Biography
John Darmody was born around 1817 in Banagher, Ireland, the son of Margaret Mary Larkin and Michael Darmody.[1][2]
He married Mary Carey in 1836 in Ireland.[3][1] Their children were:[1]

- Patrick Darmody (?–?)
- Michael Darmody (1838–1910)
- Thomas Darmody (1842–1904)
- James Darmody (1848–1921)
- William Darmody (1851–1916)
- Margaret Darmody (1855–?)
He emigrated to Australia on the Empire in 1853.[4]
John died on 19 February 1877 in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, aged 60 years.[1][5]
In 1969, the Australian Capital Territory Government named a road in the Canberra suburb of Weetangera 'Darmody Street' in John's honour.[2]
