Biography

Paul Dane was the son of John Dane and Mary Veldon

He inherited the estate of Killyhevlin on the southern edge of Enniskillen, following his father's death in 1678.

Paul Dane was involved in the Battle of the Boyne, in the battle of Kilmacormick in defense of Enniskillen, and lost considerable property in the great fire of Enniskillen in 1705. [1]

Paul Dane married Elizabeth Martin, a daughter of Christopher Martin

He later married Eliza (Elizabeth Story) a daughter of the Rt.Rev Joseph Story, Lord Bishop of Kilmore. [2]

In 1730, the Killyhevlin estate was transferred to his oldest son, John, and retired to Levaghy and the home of his daughter Margaret and James Ball just north of Enniskillen.

Paul Dane died at Levaghy, in 1746. He was buried in a vault beneath Enniskillen Church (now replaced by St. Macartin's Cathedral, Enniskillen) [3] [4]

Paul Dane, Provost of Enniskillen, died about 4 January, 1746, aged 98 years [5]

quoting Faulkiner's Journal (Sat.11th Jan. - Tues.14th Jan.1746)
Saturday 7th night, died at Enniskilling, Mr. Paul Dane in the 98th year of his age. He was Provost of that town three years together, during the late wars in this Kingdom, and did in the execution of his office such singular service to the Government in which he spent his private fortune as induced King William of immortal memory to send for him and to say that such of his famliy as were capable of serving the Government should be provided for.

Paul Dane transferred the estate of Killyhevlin (just outside Enniskillen) to his eldest son John some time before his own death in 1745. [6]
