Biography

John Dane married Elizabeth Auchinleck

He served with the Enniskilleners in the Williamite war in Ireland and was present at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.

from William Copeland Trimble's History of Enniskillen vol: ll - John Dane was one of the original officers in Wolsely's Regiment of Horse, [1] and fought in the Low Countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg) under the Duke of Marlborough. He was elected Churchwarden of Enniskillen in 1732.

Noted in The Peerage #378060 - John Dane - The dates of death for John and his wife Elisabeth are clearly inconsistent with the birth dates of their children. It appears that there is a generation of Dane's missing from Burkes Irish Family Records 1976.

  1. following the arrival General Kirke to relieve the siege of Londonderry in 1689, Wolseley was one of the experienced officers sent by Kirke to organise the irregular soldier volunteers from Enniskillen. Kirke commissioned the Enniskillen officers; Wolseley was appointed colonel of the ‘Inniskilling Horse’ which consisted of twenty-five troops.
