Biography

Kitty (Daly) McMorrow was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Catherine was born in 1871 in the Town of Chewton, 3 mi (5 km) east of the gold mining City of Castlemaine, in the Shire of Mount Alexander, 116 kilometres north west of the state capital, Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, Australia^[1]. She is the daughter of Denis Daly and Elizabeth Glynn.

Catherine married Martin McMorrow on the 21 June 1904 at St.Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Hannan Street, in the gold mining Town of Kalgoorlie, goldfields Region of Western Australia, Australia^[2].

• ^[3] WEDDING. MCMORROW—DALY. The marriage of Mr. Martin McMorrow, son of the late Mr. P.McMorrow, of Glen Innes, N.S.W., with Miss Kitty Daly, daughter of Mr. D. Daly of Castlemaine, Victoria, took place on the 21st ult. at St. Mary's Church, Kalgoorlie, in the presence of a large number of friends. The Rev. Father Hayes officiated. The bride, who was given away by her cousin, Mr. D.Daly.....^[4].

During the union, three (3) children (all born in Kalgoorlie) were born to the couple:--

1. Patrick John McMorrow (1905-1942);
2. Martin Denis McMorrow (1908-1959); and
3. Joseph Glen McMorrow (1910-1973).

However, just a year after Joseph's birth, Catherine "Kitty" passed away on the 28 May 1911, at the age of 36, at 89 Varden Street, in the Town of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Australia. According to newspaper reports, her death was a result of contracting Pneumonia^[5]. Her burial took place on the 29 May 1911 in the Roman Catholic portion of the Kalgoorlie Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Lamington, Town of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Australia^[6][7].

• ^[8] DEATH. McMORROW.—On 29th May, at Kalgoorlie, W.A., Kate, the dearly beloved wife of Martin McMorrow, beloved daughter of Denis Daly, of Golden Point, Chewton, and sister of Mrs G. Carman^[9].

• ^[10] A WORD TO WOMEN....Obituary—The friends of Martin McMorrow will learn with regret of the death of his wife, Katherine, which took place at his residence, Varden-street, on Sunday morning. The deceased lady was highly respected, and the attendance at the funeral was large and representative.
• The Rev. Den Robinson read the burial service, and gave an impressive address. The chief mourners were Mr. Martin McMorrow (husband), and Mr. and Mrs Edward McMorrow....^[11].

• ^[12] KALGOORLIE. CHILDREN OF MARY....Influenza and pneumonia are prevalent here at present. The latest victim - who succumbed to Pneumonia was Mrs. Martin McMorrow. As Miss Kitty Daly, she was well known In the early days as a consistent church-worker, and first President of the Ladies' Branch of the Hibernians Society in Kalgoorlie. Her funeral on Monday was very largely attended. Her bereaved husband and little orphan children have the sympathy of the community in their great affliction. She enjoyed perfect health until a few days before her death. As a Christian mother she seemed to have only commenced her task of training her offspring. But God who employs us only by day-labour, transferred her work for completion to other hands, and summoned her to Himself, let us hope to reward her for all she had done^[13].
