Biography

Arthur Dalton was born in Yorkshire, England.

Arthur was born on 13th March 1870, the son of Joah Dalton and Jane Longley. The census records shown below record his birthplace as 'Denby' Yorkshire but it was more likely to be Scissett, which came under the township of Denby. The family are shown to be living in 'Cuttlehurst' on the record of his baptism at St. Augustines church, Scissett, Yorkshire on 14 August 1870^[1]^[2]. It appears that Arthur never married and lived with his mother, Jane and brother, Albert after moving with the family to Cudworth, Barnsley between 1891 and 1901.

Arthur Dalton died on 14 January 1944, recorded in the Barnsley registration district but probably in Cudworth, Barnsley where he lived^[3]^[4]. He was buried at St. John the Baptist Church, Cudworth, Yorkshire on 19 January 1944^[5].

Research notes

The date of birth recorded for Arthur is not consistent with the date of birth shown on his baptism record^[1]. It is more likely that the Baptism record is accurate.
