James Dabb was born on 19 August 1827 in St. Agnes, Cornwall, England to Jecoliah Jory, age 27 and William Dabb, age 29.

He was Baptised on 25 November 1827 in St. Agnes, Cornwall. [1]

On 7 June 1841 the Dabb family lived in St Agnes, Cornwall, England at Goosegwarra, near Skinners Bottom. William Dabb (40) with wife Jecho Dabb (40) and children John Dabb (20), William Dabb (15), James Dabb (13), Elizabeth Dabb (10), Samuel Dabb (8), Mary Dabb (6), Henery Dabb (4) & Jecho Dabb (3) with Elizabeth Jenkin (65). [2]

In 1851 the Dabb family lived in Goosegwarra, St Agnes, Cornwall, England. William Dabb (52) Copper Miner & Jecholiah Dabb (51) with James Dabb (23) Copper Miner, Elizabeth Dabb (21) Copper Ore, Samuel Dabb (17) Copper Miner, Mary Ann Dabb (15) Copper Ore, Henry Dabb (13) Copper Miner, Jecholiah Dabb (11), Jane Dabb (9) & mother-in-law, widow Elizabeth Joury (69) on Charity. Brothers Samuel and James departed England in June 1855 on board Samuel Arbuthbot and arrived at Port Adelaide, Australia on 12 September 1855. After their 6 months contract to work the mines at Burra Burra, South Australia they moved east to join in the Gold Rush around Castlemaine & Avoca, Victoria. [4]

James Dabb married Catherine Frances Egan on 23 May 1868 at Maldon, Victoria, Australia. [5]

In 1869 James was working in the gold mines in Bendigo. [6]

A dreadful accident occurred at the deep shaft of the Eaglehawk Company, on Monday afternoon, to James Dabb, brother of Mr Samuel Dabb, the well-known corn merchant. The victim was at the bottom of the 350 feet shaft . . . .

His wife Catherine passed away in 1889.

In January 1899 James was lost in the Western Australian outback for 3 days. [7]

James Dabb, the man who on Wednesday was reported to the police as having been missing from his home at Burbanks since the previous morning, was found yesterday, the skill of the native trackers having rescued him from a horrible end. The man is 72 years of age. For a little more than three days he wandering about the bash without tasting either food or water. Dabb's expedience supplies a remarkable instance of endurance for a man of his years . . .

He passed away in 1907 [8] and was buried at the Kalgoorlie Cemetery. [9]
