Betsy Byars was an American author of children's books. Her novel Summer of the Swans won the 1971 Newbery Medal.[1] She has also received a National Book Award for Young People's Literature for The Night Swimmers (1980)[2] and an Edgar Award for Wanted ... Mud Blossom (1991).
Betsy Cromer was born in 1928. According to the 1940 United States Census, she was living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Under her married name of Betsy Byars, she was known for her 1971 novel "Summer of the Swans," for which she earned the Newbery Medal. She also earned the National Book Award for her 1980 book "The Night Swimmers" and the Edgar Award for her 1991 book "Wanted ... Mud Blossom." She died in 2020.
