Lt.-Col. Lord Ninian Edward Crichton-Stuart was born on 15 May 1883. He was the son of John Patrick Crichton-Stuart (3rd Marquess of Bute) and his wife Hon. Gwendolen Mary Anne Fitzalan-Howard.
He died on 2 October 1915 at age 32, killed in action.
On 16 June 1906 Ninian Crichton-Stuart was married to Hon. Ismay Lucretia Mary Preston the daughter of Jenico William Joseph Preston (14th Viscount Gormanston) and his wife Georgina Jane Connelan,
He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cardiff between 1910 and 1915. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 6th Battalion, Welsh Regiment. He fought in the First World War.
