George William Creel was born about 1826 in Barnwell, Barnwell, South Carolina, United States, son of Levi Creel (1806–1862) and Sinai Sarah Stivender (1801–1888).
In 1850, William (age 14) lived at home with his family in Barbour County, Alabama.[1]

William enlisted in the Louisiana Infantry during the Civil War on the side of the Confederacy.[2]
William died on August 12, 1862, in Mississippi, United States, aged about 36. He was most likely at the Battle of Vicksburg.[3] William was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Vicksburg, Warren, Mississippi. [4]
