Joanna Louisa Cox was born about 1831 in Hackney, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom, daughter of George Cox (1801–1876) and Sarah Elizabeth Nobes (1795–1868).

In 1851, Joanna (19) was living in Saint John Hackney, Middlesex with her parents, George (49) and Sarah (55); her siblings, Rebecca (24), Catherine (21), and Georgianna (17); and James Cox (3). ^[1]

Emigration to Australia George and Sarah Cox with their daughters are listed on the Inwards Assisted Passengers to Victoria, Australia 1839 - 1871 register. Georgianna was18 years old when the family arrived on the ship "Hope" in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 18 March 1853 having departed from London. ^[2]

Joanna died on October 9, 1901 in Victoria, Australia, aged about 69.
