Biography

Richard was the son of John Cornwallis and Mary Sulliard.[1][2][3] His birth date is uncertain: the guesstimate of about 1525 is based on his wife being age 4 in 1533.[1][2][4] He may have been born at Brome, Suffolk where his father had his main residence.[1][2]

Richard married Margaret Louthe, daughter and heir of Lionel Louthe[4][5][3] (who had lands in the counties of Huntingdon and Suffolk) and Elizabeth Bennerhasset.[1][2] She was a ward of his father.[6] They had seven children:

Richard held lands at Shotley in Suffolk and also owned Okenhill Hall, Badingham in the same county.[1][2] In the period 1545-1549 he and his wife (as sole heiress of her father) were involved in a lawsuit relating to the manor of Sawtry Beams, Huntingdonshire.[8]

Richard is believed to have died before 1581. His death place was probably in Suffolk where he had lands. His wife survived him: her will was proved in 1603.[1][2]

FYI - The Magna Carta Project has identified this profile as being on a trail from Gateway Ancestor Francis Dade to surety barons Saher de Quincy and Robert de Vere. I'll be adding the Magna Carta Project as co-manager of the profile.
