Jeff was born in Manhattan, New York City.^[1] He was the son of Charles William Conaway Jr. and Mary Helen Yorkston.

He married first circa 1972. The marriage was annulled shortly thereafter.^[2]

He married second Rona Newton-John on 9 January 1980 in Clark County, Nevada.^[3] Jeff and Rona divorced in 1985.^[4]

He married third Kerri Young on 17 August 1990. They divorced in 2000.^[5]

Jeff died on 27 May 2011 in Encino, Los Angeles County, California.^[6]
