Obituary

From the Auburn Citizen-Advertiser, Tuesday, July 26, 1938:

Darwin Comerford, 64, state road maintenance foreman for territory in the southern section of Cayuga county and well known throughout this vicinity, died Monday evening, July 25 at his home in Kelloggeville, Town of Niles. He had been in poor health for some time and his condition serious for about six weeks.

Mr. Comerford was born in Sempronius, the son of Thomas Comerford and Ellen Eaton Comerford. For the past 29 years, he had resided in Niles. He had supervision of the Niles-Moravia and New Hope-Sempronius Highways. During the past 16 years, he had been connected with the New York State Highway Department.

Mr. Comerford is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry Chamberlain; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Morris of Cortland and Mrs. Neva Austin of Moravia; two brothers, Neil and Dexter Comerford of Cortland; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon." Rev. Ernest Collings, pastor of the Methodist Church at Kelloggeville, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Fred Whiting, pastor of Sempronius Baptist Church. Burial will be in Owasco Rural Cemetery.
